It is worth going back to see how you assessed yourself

information to help you select a placement that is likely

Social and personal - communicating professionally
with work colleagues, etc.
It is important to collect evidence while on your work
placement so that you can complete a worthwhile
review and evaluation once it is has fi nished. You
should keep your own records of activities and tasks
completed. This is best achieved by completing a diary
or log book. Your employer is likely to give you a lot
of informal feedback on your progress while on work
experience and complete a more formal review once
the placement is fi nished. You may get a visit from a
tutor while on placement and/or complete a formal
review with staff at your school or college after your
work experience is completed. Section 4 of this unit
looks in detail at evaluating your own placement and
the supporting evidence required.
Technical and practical - computer skills, putting up
displays, etc.
Problem-solving - this could be anything from
fi nding information for a customer to working out
an itinerary for a business trip;
Prioritising and action-planning - these are
important work and life skills that you can develop
on your work placement;
Self-motivation - your work experience will let you
see how well you are motivated in the workplace;
Customer care and relating to people - these skills
are important and transferable to most component
industries in travel and tourism;
Research skills - this could be fi nding out the prices
charged by a competitor company, interviewing
visitors, etc.
