The Baker family from Bristol are keen
environmentalists and want to go on a 5-night
summer holiday to Wales, staying in their own tents
on a campsite that is run on strict environmental
principles. They would like to stay close to a tourist
attraction that is concerned with sustainability and
the environment. The children would also like to take
part in crafts, such as pottery, weaving or woodland
skills. For one of the days they would all like to hire
bikes. The family are also interested in learning more
about the woollen industry in Wales, perhaps at a
tourist attraction, as well as sampling some local
food in farmers' markets. They have a total budget
of £500 for the holiday (excluding the cost of food
and fuel costs for their car that they will be using for
the trip).

com and make notes on two holidays that incorporate
the principles of responsible tourism - one in a
country in the MEDW and one in a country in the
LEDW.
This activity is designed to provide evidence for P4.
Client brief
Plan a holiday for the family and provide full details
of the planned holiday, including travel details,
accommodation, attractions and activities. You
must state how the planned arrangements meet
the family's needs in terms of their motivations,
preferences, time limit and budget. You must also
justify the extent to which the planned holiday meets
specifi c principles of responsible tourism.
Some tourists are passionate about reducing their
carbon footprint and will go out of their way to choose
holidays that keep their environmental impact to a
minimum, e.g. travelling by bicycle and ferry rather
than fl ying. The majority of UK tourists, while not
being quite so insistent on an environmentally-friendly
holiday, are becoming increasingly concerned about
the environment. Often, people are unaware of the
effects they have on local people and cultures in tourist
destinations. More travel and tourism organisations are
now providing advice and guidance to their customers
to help achieve responsible tourism, such as information
in brochures and on websites before they travel, in-
fl ight magazines and fi lms shown on outbound fl ights
highlighting what tourists can do to help sustainable
tourism in resorts and tours of conservation projects to
see responsible tourism fi rst-hand.
This activity is designed to provide evidence for
