advantage (M3). You should consider bot h the similarities and the differences of the techniques being
used and compare the effectiveness of these t e chniques in gaining competitive advantage. Your evidence
must be current and include specifi c examples .

Recommendations on the use of alternative techni q ues to gain further competitive advantage for two
retail travel agents (D2). You must justify your recommendations by having reasoning and evidence to
support your suggestions. You should use the same two retail agents used for M3.
These tasks are designed to produce evidence for P3, M3 and D2.
Task 3
Lucy wants to give the new Apprentices some practice in selecting a nd costing package holidays using
brochures before they start their jobs in the agencies (P4). She has prod u ced the following two typical travel
agency scenarios for the new recruits to work out, but would like you to a t t empt them fi rst to come up with
some example answers that she could use.
For each customer brief you are asked to recommend and cost an appropriat e package holiday that meets
the needs of the customers. You should use appropriate brochures to fi nd h olidays to meet customer
requirements, locating all costs in the brochures, adding supplements, etc. to c a lculate the selling price.
You must submit a full, written breakdown of the selected package holidays, s h owing your calculations
and supporting these with relevant brochure pages marked up to show supplem e nts, etc. You must also
identify passport, visa and vaccination requirements applicable to the holiday dest i nations chosen. You
are also required to produce other information that the customers will need, includ i ng check-in details,
fl ight numbers and timings, accommodation details and baggage allowances. This inf o rmation should be
submitted with the holiday costing, together with evidence of where the information w a s obtained. You
should also, verbally or in writing, explain why you selected that particular package holiday f o r the customer
and how it meets all aspects of the customer brief.
This task is designed to produce evidence for P4.
