An explanation of the importance of links and relationships within the retail travel environment (M1).
You should develop the information y ou provided for P1, by considering why these links exist, why
relationships are formed and how they aff e ct the organisations concerned.

A description of retail travel operational pract i ces (P2). Your description should include information on:
Working practices;
Technology;
Legislation;
Trade associations and licensing.
You should provide named examples of retail travel agencies t o support your descriptions.
d.
A comparison of the effectiveness of the operational practices of two different types of retail agent
(M2). You should draw on the information you provided for P2, l o oking at the similarities and differences
between the two agents and the effectiveness of their operational practices. Your evidence must be
current and include specifi c examples.
e.
An analysis of how the use of technology has impacted on the ret a il travel environment and retail
operational practices (D1). You should progress your understanding fr o m P1, P2 and M1 by focusing
on the impact that technology has had on the present day retail travel environment and how it has
changed the way in which retail travel agents operate. You should provide re a l examples to illustrate your
analysis.
These tasks are designed to produce evidence for P1, P2, M1, M2 and D1.
Task 2
As part of her 12-month contract, Lucy has been asked by the Managing Director of the c o mpany to hold
a training event for the managers of the agency's 48 branches at the Reading head offi ce . The theme of
the event is 'gaining competitive advantage in retail travel' and Lucy would like you to do som e preliminary
research and provide her with a written report that includes:
