Task 4
The boss of the c o mpany would like you to research and make a presentation in which you must:
a.
Describe the featur e s and facilities that contribute to the appeal of a selected long-haul destination
for different types of visitors from the UK (P4). All features contributing to the appeal of your chosen
destination must be identifi e d and described in detail. Accessibility must include, as a minimum, methods
of transport, their frequency a n d examples of costs and facilities, together with a description of attractions
(natural, built, events, shopping , cultural), destination facilities (local transport, accommodation range
and cost, other, e.g. sport, ente r tainment, food and drink), positive and negative features of climate
that contribute to its appeal for diff e rent types of visitor, including leisure, business and other types of
visitor.
b.
Assess the signifi cance of different features and facilities on the appeal of a selected long-haul destination
for different types of visitors from the UK (M2). The different features and facilities of the destination must
be clearly identifi ed and the signifi cance of these to its popularity and appeal should be reviewed. This
may include researching UK visitor numbers to the d e stination.
c.
Evaluate how the selected destination has capitalised on its features and developed its facilities to attract
different types of visitors from the UK (D2).
This task is designed to provide evidence for P4, M2 and D 2.
Task 5
To give you some experience in preparing tours for clients, your line manager would like you to plan a multi-
centre long-haul tour to meet the UK visitor profi le given below, showing sources used (P5). Your tour must
contain at least four centres (a centre being a main stop within the itinerary). Your tour should be presented
as an itinerary to include transport arrangements to and from the UK, and b e tween centres. It should also
include details of accommodation to be used en route and at each centre, an y car hire, excursions or trips
pre-booked as well as a summary of the attractions and events available to the visitor at each centre. It is not
necessary to cost the tour in full, but cost must be considered when choosing ap p ropriate accommodation
and transport. When planning your tour you must use a wide variety of referenc e sources and provide a
bibliography listing your sources.
You must independently plan the detailed multi-centre tour, clearly justifying selectio n s for the visitor profi le
(M3). You must justify the choices you have made for all aspects of the planned tour to refl ect the requirements
set out in the visitor profi le.
Visitor proi le
Mr and Mrs Pugh from Manchester are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year and would like
to spend the month of November touring around either Australia, New Zealand, Canada or South Africa.
They would like to spend one week in the capital city at the beginning of their trip and return th e re for the
last 3 nights before they return to the UK. The rest of the time they would like to explore as much of the
country as possible, using a camper van for accommodation when not staying in the city. They want to visit
