Climate
Jamaica has a tropical c limate all year round, with rainy months in May and October. The island is prone to
hurricanes between Jun e and November, and also lies within the earthquake zone. Lowest temperatures are
between January and Mar c h (18°C minimum and 30°C maximum daily), while peak values are between June
and September (23°C minim u m and 32°C maximum daily).
Accommodation, food and drink
There are over 140 hotels and guest hou s es throughout the island, plus 800 cottages for visitors to rent.
Hotels are government-controlled and are g r a ded either A, B, C or D depending on facilities and services
offered. Jamaican food is hot and spicy, taki n g full advantage of herbs and peppers. National specialities
include salt fi sh, Jamaican pepperpot soup and roast suckling pig. The national drink is rum.
Entertainment and activities
Many of the main tourist resorts have a bustling night lif e , with many bars, night clubs and casinos in
Kingston and Montego Bay. Music, particularly reggae, is hear d throughout the island. Popular activities for
tourists include 4x4 safaris, marine tours, watersports of all kind s , walking and bird watching.

nightlife, relaxed way of life and numerous sporting opportunities. Many people visit for a special occasion,
