UNIT SUMMARY
This unit has given you the opportunity of developing your knowledge and skills in researching and
investigating European travel destinations. You ha v e practised locating the countries in Europe, key air
and port gateways, plus tourist destinations that are popular with British visitors. You have investigated the
types of holidays available in Europe to meet differing v is itor motivations, including short breaks and touring
holidays. You have also considered the many factors and features that determine the appeal of destinations,
such as accessibility, climate, attractions and culture. Fin a lly, the unit has given you the opportunity of
examining the factors affecting the development and decli n e of the European travel market, including the
impact of low-cost airlines and the development of new de s ti n ations. Throughout the unit you have been
shown many destination examples and have been given the c h ance of developing your travel geography
skills and knowledge by completing a series of activities. The c as e studies on Barcelona and Corfu serve to
highlight the appeal of two of Europe's most popular tourist destin a tions.
