Attractions
Europe has wide variety of natural attractions that
have proved popular with visitors for centuries, for
example:
Beaches - countries such as Greece, Spain, Italy,
Croatia and Turkey have extensive coastlines that
are popular with tourists;
Seas - the Mediterranean Sea is the best-known
expanse of water in Europe, with bustling holiday
destinations and cruise ports;
Oceans - the Atlantic Ocean borders the western
fringes of continental Europe;
Mountain ranges - are popular with tourists in
summer and winter, e.g. the Alps, the Pyrenees, the
Carpathians, etc.
Forests - are found extensively in countries such as
Sweden, Germany and Hungary;
Inland waterways and rivers - attract large numbers
of visitors, to travel along or simply to view, e.g. the
rivers Rhine, Danube and Seine.

Lakes - are a common feature of the landscape
of many countries in Europe, especially in Italy,
Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland
and Russia.
Many European cities and tourist resorts are also
popular for their nightlife and entertainment, with
clubs, bars and casinos, while shopping for fashion
clothes is popular in many cities, including Milan, Paris,
Nice and Barcelona.
Built attractions also tempt people to visit Europe,
whether it is to visit one of the many purpose-built
theme parks, art galleries and museums or the
facilities that were not originally built as attractions
but have become popular with visitors, for example
cathedrals, ancient monuments, castles, churches
and gardens. Popular theme parks in Europe include
Disneyland Paris, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen,
Gardaland Italy, Edenlandia in Naples, Port Aventura
in Spain, De Efteling in the Netherlands, Legoland in
Denmark, Liseburg in Sweden, Futuroscope in France,
Europa-Park in Germany, Parc Asterix in France and
Phantasialand in Cologne.

Carry out some research and fi nd twenty attractions
(natural and built) that are popular with British
tourists to European destinations. Each attraction
must be from a different country.
