UNIT SUMMARY
This unit has looked in detail at the range of career opportunities in travel and tourism, and considered
different entry requirements, opportunities for care e r progression, training and continuing education. You
have investigated the key stages of recruitment and selection, and have been given the opportunity of
developing your skills in a practical way. Activities in the unit have allowed you to review your current
position regarding skills and qualities by carrying out a skills audit. You have also examined a range of
factors that go to make up an effective workplace, inclu d ing supportive management styles, incentives,
teamwork and legal requirements. Throughout the unit you h ave been shown examples of good practice in
career development from many component industries in tra v e l and tourism. The case study on cabin crew
recruitment highlighted a possible avenue for career developm e nt.
