Many of Britain's most popular attractions are heritage
attractions, depicting life at a particular point in time
in the past. Many existing attractions have attached
the word 'heritage' to their facility, in the hope of
attracting greater numbers of visitors. They are part
of a general trend towards themed attractions in the
UK, for example the Jorvik Viking Centre in York,
Beamish Open Air Museum in County Durham and
the Tales of Robin Hood in Nottingham. Some parts
of Britain have developed attractions that celebrate
their industrial heritage, for example Ironbridge Gorge
in Shropshire and the Big Pit museum in South Wales,
both designated World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
