This unit is all about the jobs on offer in travel and tourism, and h o w y ou can best equip yourself to land that job
you've always dreamed of! Working by yourself, or in small grou p s under the direction of your tutor, see how you
get on with the following tasks to help you make a start on this unit:
Choose one travel and tourism job that appeals t o you and write down the main day-to-day duties associated
with the post;
Think about how you would fi nd out a b out current vacancies in travel and tourism;
Make a list of what you think sho u ld b e included in a curriculum vitae (CV);
Write down the different in t erview skills needed by interviewers and interviewees;
Have a go at listing your own strengths and weaknesses in terms of getting a job in travel and tourism;
If you were offered v ery similar jobs with two different companies, think about the reasons why you might
choose one over t h e other;
Write down what you think should be included in an induction course for a new employee in a major tourist
attracti o n;
Mak e a list of all the jobs you can think of in a particular travel and tourism component industry, e.g. airlines,
cr u ise companies, tour operations, etc.
When you've fi nished, show your answers to your tutor and compare your answers with what other groups in your
class have written.
