Quarry Park
The Quarry is Shr e w s bury's main town park and the location for the famous Shrewsbury Flower Show every
August. The park has a wide range of play facilities for children, as well as boat hire on the River Severn which
fl ows through the park. The Quarry is under the control of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and is
used by local people throughout the year and visitors to the town. Most areas are accessible to those with
mobility problems.
Sports and leisure centres
Shrewsbury has a wide range of purpose- b uilt sports and leisure facilities that are popular with local people
and visitors to the town. These include:
Shrewsbury Sports Village;
Mary Webb Sports Centre;
Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre;
Monkmoor Recreation Centre;
Grange Sports Centre;
Meole Brace Golf Course.
London Road and Roman Road Sports Centres;
Club and public access is available at all centres and ther e are extensive sports development and children's
activity programmes available.
Guided tours
Shrewsbury Tourist Information Centre is the starting point for a ra n ge of guided walking and coach tours
of the town and surrounding areas, some themed, e.g. based on the Brother Cadfael mysteries. The tours
are co-ordinated by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council using offi cial Green (local) and Blue (regional)
Badge Guides. The tours are open to individuals and groups, with f o reign language tours available on
request.
Events in Shrewsbury
The town hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, the most popular of which are the Shrewsbury
Flower Show and the Shrewsbury Summer Season - a collection of more than 300 cultural and artistic events.
The town is also the setting for the Steam Engine and Vintage Vehicle Rally, the Sh r opshire and West Mid
Show and the Charles Darwin Festival. The events are staged by a range of private, public and voluntary
sector organisations, and appeal to both local people and visitors to the town.
Accommodation
Shrewsbury has a variety of hotels to suit all budgets, as well as bed and breakfast, farmhouse and guesthouse
accommodation. For those who prefer the great outdoors, Shrewsbury has caravan and camp sites, in
addition to holiday cottages in a variety of locations. Visitors looking for group accommodation can be
accommodated in hotels, hostels or bunkhouse accommodation. Shrewsbury has a wide range of business
