In-Depth Information
Most airports in the UK serve the local needs of people
living within their immediate area. However, larger
airports such as Manchester, Birmingham and a number
of those in London and the south-east of England also
attract passengers from a wider area. These airports
provide services to a greater number of destinations
in the UK, Europe and further afi eld. The main London
airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted - are able
to offer the greatest number of fl ights and routes to
meet the growing demand for air travel. All airports
in the world have a 3-letter code for identifi cation
purposes, e.g. Birmingham is BHX, Manchester is MAN
and London Heathrow is LHR.
