2 Basilica di Santo Spirito
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
The facade of this Brunelleschi-designed basilica presides over Florence's most shabby-
chic piazza. Inside, 38 semicircular chapels and a colonnade of grey pietra forte (ochre-
coloured sandstone) Corinthian columns inject monumental grandeur. Don't miss the sac-
risty and its poignant wooden crucifix attributed by some experts to Michelangelo; access
is through the door next to the Cappella Segni in the left aisle. (Piazza Santo Spirito;

3 Giardino Torrigiani
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Behind the unassuming facades of Via de' Serragli lies this vast 19th-century garden, a
privately owned oasis featuring rare tree species, wide English-style lawns, herb and ve-
getables gardens, sculpted lions and a beautifully restored greenhouse. Guided tours (in
English or Italian) are intimate and proffer a rare glimpse into a very different and priv-
ileged Florentine world. (
