Conservation
Perhaps you're more interested in conservation work? The British Trust for Conservation
Volunteers is a good place to start. It offers short (and longer) training courses that are in-
formal and designed to be fun - including practical skills such as building a dry stone wall,
creating a pond or a wildlife garden. It also has a number of options for volunteer schemes
you can join: www.tcv.org.uk/volunteering
Animals
Volunteer jobs with animal welfare organisations can vary from helping with kennel duties,
assisting with fundraising events, carrying out wildlife surveys, to working on specific pro-
jects.
Animal Jobs Direct has information on paid work with animals but it also has a section for
volunteers.
