The UK also has a law on working hours to comply with European Union legislation. This
says that (with some exemptions for specific professions) no employee should be expected
to work more than 48 hours a week. Good employers do give you time off in lieu if you
occasionally have to work more than this. Others take no notice, piling a 60-hour-a-week
workload on you. This is against the law and, unless you like working a 12-hour day, they
must stop.
