Film, theatre and drama
If you're thinking of a short course in performing arts, the USA is one of the most obvious
places to go - most famously the New York Film Academy, which has a very useful page
for international students:
www.nyfa.edu/admissions/international_student.php
The Academy runs summer schools in London, Paris, Florence, Colombia, China, Japan and
South Korea.
Met Film School run courses at their studios in Berlin, incorporating writing, producing, dir-
ecting and editing.

Or how about New Zealand? Try: www.drama.org.nz
If you want dance as well, the world's your oyster. You can learn salsa in Delhi (as well as
in South America) and the traditional Indian Kathak dance in the USA. Here's a good place
to start looking:

And then, of course, there's Bollywood. There are courses in film direction, cinematography,
sound production and editing at the Film and Television Institutes of India, in Pune (south-
west of Mumbai), which runs a number of courses for overseas students: www.ftiindia.com
Music
Whether you're into classical or pop, world music or traditional, there are vibrant music
scenes all over the world.
From the studios that have sprung up in Dakar, the West African capital of Senegal, to the
club scenes of Europe, to more formal schools, check out the opportunities to combine your
interest with travel and maybe learn to play an instrument, if you don't already, or another
one if you do.
We've checked online for short music courses, since the UNESCO site no longer offers a
directory, and although there are plenty out there, it's a case of searching by location.
Here's one for all UK summer schools, including music:

Or how about helping out in a rock centre in Chennai, India?
