Postgraduate MA/visiting fellowship/exchange
Several universities in the UK have direct links to partnership programmes with others
around the world, but if you want to widen your search, the Worldwide Universities Network
(WUN) is a good place to start looking for exchange, overseas study and funding for re-
search projects. It's a partnership of 16 research-led universities from Asia, Australasia,
Europe and North America.
WUN's Research Mobility Programme funds a period of study overseas, for senior post-
graduates and junior faculty, to establish and cultivate research links at an institutional and
individual level between the partners in Europe, North America, south-east Asia and Aus-
tralia. It is also intended to encourage the personal and academic development of individuals
early in their research careers.

Arts and culture
Art
If you want to go to art school, or have already been, no matter which art form interests you,
travelling and soaking up the atmosphere is a good way to learn more and give you ideas for
your own work. It's also a great opportunity to add to your portfolio.
You don't have to be an art student or graduate to enjoy the beauty of art and artefacts pro-
duced by different cultures. Most courses listed in this guidebook are open to anyone who
wants to explore the arts in a bit more depth. For example, have a look at the courses offered
by Art History Abroad: www.arthistoryabroad.com .
We'd also like to recommend the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts: www.aegeancenter.org
Culture
It's a cliché, but also true, that travel broadens the mind and you'll absorb much about the
culture of the places you visit just by being there. However, if you want to develop your
understanding in more depth, maybe learn a bit of the language and discover some of your
chosen country's history, then you could go for the cultural component of some of the lan-
guage courses listed in the directory.
Alternatively, you might like to try something like The John Hall Venice Course, which
gives an insight into Western culture and achievements and features time spent in London,
Venice,
Florence
and
Rome.
