In-Depth Information
Cookery
Cooking jobs are available abroad as well as in the UK, particularly during the summer
months. Gaining some cooking skills is a great way to boost your CV and opens up new
possibilities.
Families will often look for a young person to help eg during the long summer months -
animal/child-friendly and an ability to drive are good skills combinations along with basic
cooking skills to provide all-round household support. Some families have holiday homes
abroad and in the traditional English holiday locations so there can be a chance to get to
know a new area.
Seasonal work in Europe
Working in Europe offers endless possibilities - from fruit picking to hospitality and tour-
ism, leading nature trips to teaching English (for more on this see our TEFL section above).
Some non-EU members need work permits so you should check the regulations in the coun-
try you want to go to.
Companies offer a variety of roles working with children at locations across the UK, France
and Spain for as little as 12 weeks, to a maximum of ten months with the option to return the
following year.
Jobs on offer include children's group leaders, activity or watersports Instructors, French-
speaking tour leaders or administrators and Spanish-speaking roles. Non- guest-facing roles
include support team positions: catering assistants, chefs, drivers, retail, housekeeping and
maintenance. Some roles do not require qualifications or previous experience - in fact there
are opportunities for a comprehensive training programme including apprenticeships and
coaching awards so you may even have the opportunity to gain an additional qualification
for life at no cost to yourself.
