9. PARC FLORAL PHOENIX AND MUSEE DES ARTS
ASIATIQUES
This large floral park is a themed wonderland of world horticulture with, at its centre,
Europe's biggest greenhouse. Inside the metal and glass “marquee”, one wanders
through recreated warm-climate zones, from equatorial forest to the Natal desert.
Also in the park is the Asian Arts Museum, a marble and glass construction con-
taining classical and contemporary creations from the main Asian civilizations.

10. CATHEDRALE ST-NICOLAS
The Russian community was almost as prominent in Nice as the British in the late
19th and early 20th centuries. This Russian Orthodox cathedral was completed in

Nice's Expat Community
Led by the British, European (notably Russian) nobility flocked to Nice in win-
tertime from the early 19th century. Vast, luxurious hotels, villas and places of
entertainment sprung up to accommodate them. Nice became two cities - one
for the wealthy and leisured northern visitors and another for working Mediter-
ranean natives. This era disappeared with World War I, but somehow the glam-
our never left.
