Summary
Over the course of this topic you have learned the techniques required to get started
developing native Direct3D games for Windows 8. We've looked at the different com-
ponents of a game and how to use the Windows 8 APIs to enhance your game past
the standard gameplay. You should also understand how to get your game through
certification and into the store.
In this chapter we looked at how to sell your game in the store, and the different APIs
available to manage the trial versions as well as in-app purchases. You should hope-
fully also have a better understanding of the monetization models common in mod-
ern game development and, using the techniques provided, be able to apply them to
make some money from your game.

The important thing is to get out there, make, and publish your games. Be sure to take
advantage of the features native to Windows 8 to create a unique and rich experience
for players. Direct3D provides a lot of power, and it has never been easier to use now
that we can work with technologies such as C++11 and C++/CX to develop games.
My final tip would be to engage with your local Microsoft Developer team. Microsoft
has a number of Developer Platform Evangelism teams around the world with the
sole focus of working with you to help you do cool things on Microsoft platforms. If
you want to try and get your game featured in local or worldwide markets as well as
get any assistance, go straight to the source and get in contact. You never know what
opportunities they may unlock, and at the very least they'll be more than happy to
provide some free advertising for great games on the Windows platform.
