THE MALL
Charing Cross. MAP
The tree-lined sweep of The Mall was laid out in the early twentieth century as a memorial
to Queen Victoria. The bombastic Admiralty Arch was erected to mark the eastern entrance
to The Mall, from Trafalgar Square, while at the other end, in front of Buckingham Palace,
stands the ludicrously overblown Victoria Memorial , Edward VII's tribute to his mother.
The Mall is best visited on a Sunday, when it's closed to traffic.
