INTRODUCTION TO LONDON
London is a very big city. In fact, it's the largest capital in the European Union, stretch-
ing for more than thirty miles from east to west, and with a population of just over eight
million. Ethnically and linguistically, it's also Europe's most diverse metropolis, offering
cultural and culinary delights from right across the globe. The city dominates the na-
tional horizon, too: this is where most of the country's news and money are made, it's
where central government resides and, as far as its inhabitants are concerned, provin-
cial life begins beyond the circuit of the city's orbital motorway.
