HAMPTON COURT PALACE
Getting to and around the palace
Trains from Waterloo take around half an hour to reach Hampton Court train station,
which is just across the river from the palace.
The State Apartments are divided into six thematic walking tours , which are numbered
and colour-coded. There's not a lot of information in any of the rooms, but guided
tours , each lasting half an hour or so, take place throughout the State Apartments; all are
led by period-costumed historians, who do a fine job of bringing the place to life. In ad-
dition, audioguides are available for all the walking tours from the information centre
on the east side of Clock Court.
If your energy is lacking - and Hampton Court is a huge complex - the most rewarding
sections are Henry VIII's Apartments, William III's Apartments and Henry VIII's
Kitchens. And be sure not to miss out on the splendid Maze.
