An architectural masterpiece created in 1890, Holy Trinity is probably the finest
Arts and
Crafts
church in London. The east window is the most glorious of the furnishings, a vast,
48-panel extravaganza designed by Edward Burne-Jones, and the largest ever made by Mor-
ris & Co. Holy Trinity is very High Church, filled with the smell of incense, statues of the
Virgin Mary, and confessionals.

On the south side of King's Road, a short stroll from Sloane Square, are the former
Duke of
York's Barracks
, now housing upmarket shops and cafés. The main building, erected in
1801 and fronted by a solid-looking Tuscan portico, is home to the privately-run Saatchi
Gallery. Its fifteen whitewashed rooms - “a study in blandness” according to one art critic -
host changing exhibitions of contemporary art.
