SIR JOHN SOANE'S MUSEUM
HUNTERIAN MUSEUM
Royal College of Surgeons, Lincoln's Inn Fields Holborn or Temple 020 7869 6560,

Containing the unique specimen collection of the surgeon-scientist John Hunter (1728-93),
the Hunterian Museum first opened in 1813. Since most of the exhibits are jars of pickled
skeletons and body pieces, it's certainly not a museum for the squeamish. Among the prize
exhibits are the skeletons of the Irish giant, Charles Byrne (1761-83), who was seven feet
ten inches tall, and the Sicilian dwarf Caroline Crachami (d.1824), who was just one foot
ten and a half inches when she died at the age of nine.
