Glass Museum
Since 1861, Museo del Vetro (Glass Museum; 041 73 95 86;

Apr-Oct, to 5pm Nov-Mar; Museo) has presented Murano's glass-making prowess
here in Palazzo Giustinian. Downstairs are priceless 1500-year-old examples
of iridescent Roman glass; upstairs is the frescoed Salone Maggiore (Grand
Salon), where displays include a botanically convincing 1930s glass cactus.
Davide Penso Beadwork
Davide Penso ( 041 527 56 59; www.davidepenso.com ; Fondamenta Rivalonga 48;
10am-5.30pm Mon-Sat; Museo) has taken the art of bead-making global, with
African-inspired necklaces exhibited at Boston's Fine Arts Museum. Lamp-
worked beads in essential shapes are strung onto modern necklaces and
bracelets that look ancient.
Campagnol & Salvadore DIY
Campagnol & Salvadore ( 041 73 67 72; Fondamenta Vetrai 128a; 10.30am-6pm
Mon-Sat; Colonna) specialises in light-hearted creations: aqua and yellow bead
necklaces look like strands of tiny beach balls. Aspiring designers can create
their own looks from individual blown-glass beads (€3 to €15 per bead).
Cutting-edge at ElleElle
Nason Moretti has made modernist magic in glass since the 1950s, and at
ElleElle ( 041 527 48 66; www.elleellemurano.com ; Fondamenta Manin 52; 10am-6pm
Mon-Sat; Colonna) is breaking new ground with collections for New York's
MoMA. Prices start at €30 for signed, blown-glass drinking glasses.
