In-Depth Information
Magaziá and Mólos
Immediately below Skýros Town, reached by a direct stairway or more roundabout
roads, is the beach hamlet of MAGAZIÁ . From here a long sandy beach extends to
MÓLOS ; these days the two are pretty much joined by low-key, low-rise development
- much of the island's accommodation is down here, along with plenty of restaurants
and a couple of lively beach bars. Around the point beyond Mólos, a much more
exposed beach is punctuated by rock outcrops, whose weird, squared-off shapes are the
result of Roman (and later) quarrying rather than natural erosion; one monolith, by
the cape with its snack-bar/windmill, has a rock-hewn chapel inside.

Linariá
LINARIÁ , where the ferries dock, is a pleasant enough place, with plenty of options for
eating and drinking if you're waiting for a boat, but little reason to stay. In high season,
excursion boats (€30 including lunch) offer trips to the islet of Sarakinó , with its
white-sand beach, stopping at various sea-caves en route. Should you want to stay
around here, the next little bay, Aheroúnes , is a peaceful spot with a much better
beach, only about fifteen minutes' walk away.

EATING, DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
SKÝROS TOWN
Akamatra Main square T 22220 29029. Large, fancy
bar on two floors, with leather seating and terraces
overlooking both platía and street. Open during the day for
coffee, and regular DJ events till the early hours. Daily
10am-2am.
Kalypso Main street T 22220 92696. The last of the
places as you climb the street, Kalypso is a long-established
café-bar with a jazz and blues soundtrack, attracting a
slightly older, more touristy crowd than the places around
the platía, though it can get lively later on. Daily from
around 7pm.
Maryetis Main street T 22220 91311. Much the most
popular place in town, with only a few tables on the street-
side terrace, opposite Skyros Travel, so you may well have to
wait. Simple Greek oven dishes and grilled meat or fish at
reasonable prices are the attraction, washed down with
decent house wine. Daily lunch & dinner.
MAGAZIÁ/MÓLOS
Asterias Mólos T 22220 93008. Excellent restaurant on
the waterfront platía with a pretty beachfront terrace and
sunbeds below for customer use. There's no printed menu
- usually a good sign - just half a dozen daily specials
reeled off by the waiter, plus the usual salads and sides.
Daily lunch & dinner.
