practice it doesn't seem to be. Immediately north of Hóra, visible tucked into their
respective finger-like inlets, compact Vrysítsa and Yiália (with a picturesque windmill) both
have more sand than pebbles, but no facilities.
ACCOMMODATION PATITÍRI AND AROUND
Most Alónissos accommodation is in Patitíri or immediately around; you may be approached with offers as you disembark at
the port. Albedo Travel ( T 24240 65804, W albedotravel.com) handles hotels, studios and villas across the island, while the
local room-owners' association booth ( T 24240 66188, W alonissos-rooms.gr), on the waterfront, can also find you a room.

of town, with stunning views, small pool and recently
refurbished rooms, studios and family apartments, all with
free wi-fi, flat-screen TVs, modern wooden furniture, and
quality bathroom s. Ver y good deals out of season.

.gr. Two-star hotel above the eastern side of the harbour,
overlooking Roussoúm, with pool, bar, and an
exceptionally friendly welcome. Plain rooms have a/c
and balcony but no TV; many have views over the bay.

.gr. Fairly simple studio rooms, plus a couple of
apartments available year-round (with a/c and
heating), above the harbour in a backstreet behind
Albedo Travel. Few have unobstructed views from their
balconies, but you can enjoy those from the restaurant
downstairs - there 's al so a washing machine and free
wi-fi for guest use. €50
HÓRA

exquisitely restored studios (a one-bed and a two-bed) and
two houses in the upper part of the village. They accommodate
up to four people, and are beautifully furnished fro m th e
owner's Gorgona antique shop; upmarket, but worth it. €75
Fantasia House T 24240 65186. Beamed ceilings and a
terrace with amazing views to the south and east are the
big attractions of these simple, a/ c ro oms, of the main
square at the bottom of the village. €60
Konstantina's Studios T 24240 66165, W konstantina
studios.gr. A renovated building in the lower part of the
village, past Fantasia , with eight fully equipped studios
and one apartment, all enjoying exceptional views. There's
a lovely garden, and Konstantina will collect you from the
port on request. €80
VÓTSI

.gr. Modern block of studios and apartments on the road
down to the bay whose balconies have fine views down
over Vótsi and out to sea. Comfortable tiled -loor rooms
have a/c, TV and functional kitchenettes. €70
EATING AND DRINKING
Though there's no shortage of places to eat in Patitíri, only a couple stand out from the crowd; nightlife here consists of a
few music bars over on the western side of the harbour, below the museum. There's generally better, if pricier, food, and
more night-time activity, up in Hóra. Hóra's main street is lined with restaurants, mostly with wonderful views, but few
that are good value or particularly high quality. Locals and those in the know tend to eat further down, or in the backstreets.

To Kamaki T 24240 65245. Authentic, welcoming ouzerí
on the eastern street, 150m from the waterfront. Portions
are not huge but the seafood-heavy menu encompasses
unusual dishes like crab croquettes, skate and tsitsírava
shoots. Meze €4-5, mains €7.50-9. Dinner daily, plus
lunch at weekends.
PATITÍRI
Archipelagos Harbour T 24240 65031. The waterfront
restaurants are generally nothing special; an exception,
popular with locals, is Archipelagos , at the bottom of the
western street, with good mezédhes, fish and traditional
Greek cooking - plus excellent home-made chips. Daily
lunch & dinner.
Pleiades T 24240 65235. On a terrace overlooking the
harbour (signed uphill behind Albedo Travel), Pleiades
makes a conscious attempt to offer something different,
with more elegant than usual tableware and dishes such as
seafood chowder, chicken in lemon and ginger, and a
choice of puddings; there's a daily special for €10. Regular
events including live music, barbecues and quizzes make it

Acquasanta T 693 28 32 748. An elegant hideaway
(signed off the main street, just above the square) with a
predominantly Italian menu, not badly priced considering
the sophisticated food, swish surroundings and sparkling
vistas from the terrace; pasta and fish are the specialities
