below the streets, plus a fine archeological museum. Thássos hosts a summer festival

Hellenistic theatre, funds permitting.
The agora

The largest excavated area is the agora , a little way back from the fishing
harbour. The grassy site is fenced but not always locked, and is most enjoyably
seen towards dusk. Two Roman stoas are prominent, but you can also make out
shops, monuments, passageways and sanctuaries from the remodelled Classical
city. At the far end, a fifth-century BC passageway leads through to an elaborate
sanctuary of Artemis, a substantial stretch of Roman road and a few seats of
the odeion .

he renovated archeological museum , close to the agora, contains small but
absorbing displays on prehistoric finds, archeological methods and ancient games.
Pride of place goes to the 4m-tall, seventh-century BC kouros carrying a ram, found
on the acropolis. The courtyard contains some impressive sarcophagi and statuary.
