ARRIVAL AND GETTING AROUND
THÁSSOS
By ferry/hydrofoil
Kavála-based ferries (2-6 daily; 1hr
15min) arrive at Skála Prínou, in the northwest of the
island. Ferries to Liménas (8-12 daily; 40min) leave from
Keramotí on the mainland opposite. Depending on the
economic situation, there may be high-season hydrofoils
from Kavála to Liménas.
By bus
The service is fairly good, with frequent buses to
Panayía and Skála Potamiás (7-8 daily; 15-20min),
Limenária (7 daily; 45min) via Skála Prínou and Potós,
Theológos (5 daily; 1hr) and Alykí (3 daily; 30min) via Kínyra.
By car or motorbike
Thássos is small enough to
circumnavigate in one full day by rented motorbike or car.
Car rental is offered by the major international chains and
local Potos Car Rentals (

Liménas
Largely modern
LIMÉNAS
(also signposted as Limín or Thássos) is the island's capital,
though not the only port. Although it's plagued with surprisingly clogged traffic, it is
partly redeemed by its picturesque fishing harbour and the impressive remains of the
ancient city
. Thanks to its mineral wealth and safe harbour, ancient Thássos prospered
from Classical to Roman times. There are substantial remains which appear above and
