DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
The one thing which Áyios Nikólaos undeniably does well is bars and nightlife. Music bars with terraces spread along Aktí
Koundoúrou on the harbourfront. More raucous bars and clubs crowd the bottom of 25-Martíou (known as “Soho Street”)
as it heads up the hill.
Molo Akti Koundoúrou 6. One of a bunch of popular glitzy
café-bars looking out over the ferry dock on the east side of
the harbour. A relaxed café during the day and a bar at
night, open until the early hours. Daily 9am-late.
Moritz Akti Koundoúrou 10. West of the harbour. Cosy,
laidback café-bar along the seafront with a dressy clientele
and jazz and soft-rock sounds. Daily 9am-late.
Puerto Café Bar Aktí I Koundoúrou. One of the row of
café-bars on the harbourfront, with outdoor harbourside
seating and an indoor bar which pumps up the volume
after dark. Daily 9am-late.
Royale 25-Martiou. The first of a row of bars proper, at
the bottom of 25-Martíou, near the harbour. Daily
11pm- late.
Sorrento Akti I Koundoúrou 23. On the west side of the
harbour, near the tourist office. A long-established haunt
of expats, loud and fun, if that's what you're in the mood
for. Daily 9pm-late.

Eloúnda and around
The village of ELOÚNDA , now a small-scale resort, lies about 8km from Áyios
Nikólaos, along the coast road. Just before the centre of the village, a road
(signposted) leads downhill to a natural causeway leading to the ancient “sunken city”
of Olous . Here you'll find restored windmills, a short length of canal, Venetian salt
pans and a well-preserved dolphin mosaic , inside a former Roman basilica, but
nothing of the sunken city itself beyond a couple of walls in about 70cm of water.
Swimming here is good - but watch out for sea urchins. Life in Eloúnda village
focuses around the large square lined with cafés, tavernas and shops, in front of the
picturesque harbour. Right next to the harbour is the sandy town beach , with other
patches of sand stretching out north along the coast.
