a low-key, escapist clientele, happy to have found a relatively large, interesting,
uncommercialized and hospitable island with excellent walking. Families tend to stay
around Katápola, while younger tourists prefer Aigiáli.
This is the island to try rakómelo - a kind of fermented grappa with honey, herbs and
spices, drunk in shots as an aperitif.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE AMORGÓS
Most ferries and catamarans call either to Katápola in the southwest or Aigiáli in the north, while some dock at both. Be
aware that it is those destinations, rather than “Amorgós”, that are named on ferry schedules. There are more onward
connections from Katápola than Aigiáli.

INFORMATION
Services Internet is available at the Teloneio rock café in
Katápola.The island's main post office is in the upper
square in Hóra. There's no bank in Aigiáli, but you'll find an
ATM near the ferry dock.
Travel agents Prekas ( T 22850 71256) in Katápola,
just along from the ferry dock, is the one-stop boat-
ticket agency (as well as an ouzerí). Aegialis Tours

can help you with tickets, transfers, car rental and
accommodation.
GETTING AROUND
By bus A bus shuttles between Katápola and Hóra, the
island capital; several times daily it continues to Ayía Ánna
via Hozoviótissas monastery, and 2-7 times weekly
(9.45am) out to the “Káto Meriá”, made up of the hamlets
