EATING
Apollon Off Agorá T 22840 24691. Housed in a
converted 1920s olive press with a large garden near the
market, this is one of the island's classiest restaurants.
Despite high prices, its popularity never wanes. Try the
chicken with prunes (€18), highly recommended. April-
Oct daily 7pm-late.
Ì Boudaraki T 22840 22297. The locals rate this
restaurant at the southern beachfront by the bridge as the
best one on Páros. Expect good service even when packed,
an excellent selection of mezédhes and mains (€12), as
well as home-made baklava to finish the meal off. Easter-
Sept daily noon-1am.
Happy Green Cows T 22840 24691. Remarkably
eclectic vegetarian restaurant in a side street behind the
National Bank with some concessions to carnivores that
include chicken and fish. Not cheap (mains around €17),
yet imaginative, with unexpected local ingredients that
make you want to play “name that vegetable”. April-Oct
daily 7pm-2am.
Hibiscus T 22840 24691. One of the oldest restaurants
on the island, in a great, central spot on the waterfront
south of the windmill, overlooking the sea; it offers the
usual Greek dishes, but is famed mainly for its selection of
generous-sized, wood-oven-baked pizzas for €10. April-
Oct daily 6pm-2am.
Trata T 22840 24651. Behind the ancient cemetery off
the road heading out of town, this popular, family-run
taverna specializes in serving large plates of tasty seafood
and grilled meats (€12) in a vine-covered patio. April-Oct
daily noon-midnight.
NIGHTLIFE
Alexandros The best possible location for a sophisticated
evening drink in a fabulously romantic spot around a real
windmill. Set apart from the town, on an elevated promontory
at the southern end of the promenade, it has wonderful
sunset views which you can enjoy while listening to classical
music. Cocktails €9. June-Sept daily 6.30pm-3am.
Dubliner/Paros Rock T 22840 21113. Large, brash and
youthful dance complex thankfully set back from the main
drag just of the seafront bridge, thus avoiding scrutiny of the
antics of the 18-30 crowd dancing to mainstream hits. It
comprises four loud bars - opening gradually as the summer
hots up - a main club and an outdoors chillout area. Entrance
with first drink €5. June-Sept daily 11pm-6am.
Ì Pebbles Upstairs bar at the seafront, east of the
windmill and up the steps from the kiosk, playing jazz and
lounge music, with good sunset views and excellent
cocktails (€7). It attracts a mixed-age crowd, who pack the
place to watch the sunset around 8pm and then return
after midnight. Daily noon-3am.
Pirate Bar Popular, established jazz and blues bar near the
town hall, opposite Dina's. It is rather small, so it's convenient
for smokers as most of its clientele tend to stand outside.
Cocktails €8. April-Oct daily 10am-2pm & 6.30pm-3am.
Saloon D'Or Rowdy but fun spot on the seafront south of
the windmill, with cheap drinks and lounge/chillout music.
It offers shishas in various flavours, as well as comfortable
Oriental divans and settees to sink in and enjoy them.
Cocktails €7. May-Sept daily 8.30pm-3.30am.
The southwest
There's little to stop for southwest of Parikiá until Poúnda , 6km away, the watersports
centre of the island. A further 6km south, past the airport, you reach Alykí , a pretty
resort on a picturesque bay with two beach sections: one pebbly and bare and the other
sandy and shaded.
