INFORMATION
Services There are numerous banks around Égina Town
harbour, many with ATMs. The post office is at the rear of
Platía Ethneyersías, where the buses stop. Most of the
harbourfront cafés have wi-fi; Global Internet Café at
Fanerómenis 7, just of the southern end of the waterfront,
has plenty of terminals and fast connections.
Newspapers Foreign-language papers and a few books
from Kendrou Typou, on Eákou at the corner of Spýrou Ródhi.
Useful
website
There's
no
tourist
office,
but
W aeginagreece.com is a useful resource.
Travel agent Aegina Island Holidays ( T 22970 26430,
W aeginaislandgreece.com), on the Égina Town
waterfront near the church of Panayítsa, offers
excursions to the mainland and islands, including to the
Epidaurus festival, as well as help with accommodation
should you need it.
GETTING AROUND
By bus The bus station is on Platía Ethneyersías,
immediately north of the dock; buy your tickets at the little
booth, in summer located on the waterfront, the rest of the
year in the square by the bus stop. At least five buses a day
(mostly in the morning) head to Souvála and to Ayía
Marína, at least six along the coast to Pérdhika; on arrival
they turn round and head straight back. All buses towards
Ayía Marína stop at Áyios Nektários and most at the Temple
of Aphaea; on the return journey, they all stop at both.
By car and motorcycle Several places on and behind
Égina Town's main waterfront rent scooters, cars,
motorbikes and mountain bikes - Égina is large and hilly
enough to make a motor worthwhile for anything other
than a pedal to the local beaches: Trust ( T 22970
27010), one of the first you come to behind the
harbour, has the best prices, though some of their
mopeds are fairly battered. There are also hire places in
Ayía Marína.
By taxi The taxi rank is at the base of the ferry jetty,
opposite the ticket cabins; taxis meet ferry arrivals in Ayía
Marína and Souvála too.
