Bypassing the eyesore of Néa Potídhea, some 6km beyond Néa Moudhaniá and across
the ancient canal, the first place you might consider stopping at is NÉA FÓKEA , a
modest place consisting mostly of holiday apartments for Greeks, rendered picturesque
by a Byzantine watchtower on a grassy headland. From the harbour a long beach heads
north under cliffs, improving as you distance yourself from the tower.
Sáni
Just north of Néa Fókea, an 8km paved side road takes you westwards through
bucolic countryside to SÁNI on the west coast, with a British-operated manicured
marina full of boutiques and chic restaurants. Sáni is also noted for its summer
festival , which boasts a cosmopolitan billing of world music, salsa, jazz and
cutting-edge Greek stars. This takes place up by another quaint Byzantine
watchtower on the headland.
Áfytos
Some 5km south of Néa Fókea, you reach the turning east for ÁFYTOS (or Áthytos), by
far the most attractive spot on Kassándhra. This large village of tile-roofed traditional
