ARRIVAL AND INFORMATION KORÓNI

By bus Buses terminate in the square below the main
church one row back from the waterfront.
Destinations Athens (1 daily; 7hr); Kalamáta (7 daily; 1hr
30min); Pýlos (5 daily; 1hr 20min).

Services Koróni has two banks and ATMs, and a post
office. Mountain bikes are available from the Makrisa shop
on the main street.

ACCOMMODATION
If you're looking for private rooms on arrival, try the places to the right of the fishing port as you face the water; there are
also cheaper, quieter rooms in the Panórama district, up behind Zánga beach.

This large, rather basic hotel occupies a fine position, out on
the road towards Mémi beach, with a large restaurant
veranda overlooking the sea. The surrounding gard ens are
a plus. Rooms have a/c and views. Mid-April to Oct. €60

Located on a side street just as you arrive at the port, this

boutique property has simple, fresh rooms with a/c and
other amenities, most with sea views. Mid-April to Oct. €50

.com. Located 200m north of town, just 60m up from a
sandy beach, with beach facilities, this campsite also has a
pool, a bar, a restaur ant, a minimarket, washing machines

EATING AND DRINKING
There is a reasonable selection of restaurants on the waterfront, and some authentic tavernas (barrel-wine and oven-food
places) along the main shopping street. Many people make wine or raki in their basement, and the heady local tipple figures
prominently in the nightlife. The main venues are the sprawling Astra Club out towards Mémi beach and the Zanza Club .

Bogris #2 T 27250 22664. This port-side taverna boasts a
romantic garden courtyard. Check the day's offerings on the
menu: it always includes dozens of grills and an impressive
wine list. Mains €5-10. Daily breakfast, lunch & dinner.

/parthenon_en.html. This taverna, on the seafront corner

below the square, also has rooms with a/c and sea views
upstairs (€60). The restaurant serves up a classic mix of
Greek and Italian dishes, notably seafood, and besides the
main dining room there are tables right on the harbour.

Finikoúnda
FINIKOÚNDA , 18km west of Koróni and on the Kalamáta-Pýlos bus route, is a small
fishing village with a superb cove-beach, another to the east, and a gigantic strand to
the west. Over recent years it has gained a reputation as a windsurfers' resort , with half
the summer intake staying at campsites on either side of the village, the others housed
in a variety of rooms and a newish hotel or two, including some block-booked by
British package companies.
ACCOMMODATION FINIKOÚNDA

Located 3km west of the village, surrounded by nature, this
shady campsite is situated near sandy dunes along a
beautiful beach. Facilities include a sho p, a b ar-restaurant,
and good sanitation services. May-Oct. €12

This very central hotel complex could use some sprucing
up, but it's friendly and serviceable. Rooms all have
balconies and a/c. Breakfast include d in the adjacent family
taverna, with sea views. April-Oct. €60
Golden Sun T 27230 71358, W goldensuhotel.gr. This
large beachfront hotel has a lot going for it: rooms with
balconies, a large pool, terraces and gardens, private
parking, and a restaurant. The main problem is that it was

done on the cheap and could do with renovation. Still, it's an
acceptable option, with its own restaurant and waters ports
on offer. Breakfast included. April-Oct. No credit cards. €65

@otenet.gr. Medium-sized, quirkily decorated hotel right
on the beach, which also has bungalows at similar prices.
Choose top-floor front rooms for ma ximum panoramic
effect. Bar-restaurant on premises. €65
Loutsa Camping T 27230 71169, W finikounda.at
/camping-loutsa. Located just about 1km to the east of
town, this campsite offers ample shade and a garden setting,
just steps from a 20m-wide sandy beach, with umbrellas and
a shower. Sites are a bit small. There's a restaurant ne arby , and
washing machines are available on-site. June-Sept. €10
