NIGHTLIFE
In the city centre, the most vibrant nightlife is in and around
Psyrrí
,
Gázi
and
Thissío
but there are
bars
and
clubs
almost everywhere, mostly kicking off around 10pm or later. Bars listed here mostly focus on music or morph into clubs
after midnight; North European-style pubs are rare - try
Brettos
(see p.66) or
James Joyce
(see p.66); there are also plenty
of cafés that function as bars at night; try
7 Jokers
(see p.66) or
Arodou
(see p.66). Some central Athens air-conditioned
clubs remain open year-round, but in
summer
the scene really moves out to the long stretch of coast from Fáliro to
Várkiza, where huge temporary clubs operate on and around the beaches. If you head out, bear in mind that the taxi fare
will be just one of several hefty bills, although admission prices usually include a free drink.

There's a row of half a dozen bar/clubs at the
top of Voutádhon, with dance music thumping out and a
youthful crowd. Soho is the biggest and arguably the best
of them. In the early evening there are tables outside, food
is served and it's a relatively calm meeting place; later on
the volume is turned up and the action moves to the DJs
inside.
