strictly necessary. Heritage tourism is moreover
frequently connected to a concrete, traditional
cultural heritage, whose vestiges bear witness to
a glorious past; in memory tourism we do not
necessarily need such precious cultural objects:
this lack is evident in the case of Heidi's House,
for example, but also in the Ostalgia tourism.
The great strength of memory tourism as a
form of emotional tourism is that it can develop
everywhere there are embodied memories that
can become universal, that can be generalized:
it does not need anything else. In any case,
memory tourism offers to tourists a nostalgic
experience, a trip back in time: it does not nec-
essarily offer sights worth seeing, but it certainly
provides something worth feeling. And this is
the most precious commodity in contemporary
society.
