Still the focal point of the area after all these years, the 106m-high Marine Tower was
built in 1961 to celebrate the port's centenary. Though it's supposedly the world's tallest
lighthouse, it's better to save your money for the Landmark Tower's much higher
observation deck (see below).

he Hikawa-maru , a retired passenger liner also known as the Queen of the Pacific ,
was built in 1930 for the NYK line Yokohama-Seattle service, though it was later
commandeered as a hospital ship during World War II. It now serves as the Hikawa-
maru Museum , with the ship done up to look as it did in its prime.
Ōsanbashi
େ͞Μڮ
Opposite the Hikawu-maru Museum, the Ōsanbashi pier is where cruise ships pull up
to berth at Yokohama's International Passenger Terminal. Originally dating from the
late nineteenth century, the pier was rebuilt in 2002 to a beautifully fluid, low-slung
design inspired by ocean waves - a skateboarder's dream come true. There are “proper”
cafés inside, but the snack shacks on the park-like roof area are the best place to grab a
drink; even if the coffee's not great, the superb view makes this one of the nicest spots
in the whole city.

building by far, and still the second-tallest in the country. The Sky Garden observation
deck is on its 69th floor, and on clear days, when Fuji is flaunting her beauty, the
superb views more than justify the entry fee. You can also enjoy a coffee for about the
same price in the opulent Sirius Sky Lounge , another floor up in the Royal Park Hotel ,
or splash out on an early evening cocktail as the city lights spread their magic.
