ROBOT RESTAURANT, KABUKICHŌ
Entertainment and the arts
When it comes to exploring Tokyo's diverse theatre scene, it's easy to enjoy
colourful extravaganzas like Takarazuka or the more traditional kabuki even
if you don't understand the language. The notoriously di cult nō and Butō
are also worth trying at least once. Tokyo can be a good place for English-
language drama too, with international theatre groups often passing
through on foreign tours, while opera is slowly gaining currency. In terms of
less highbrow territory, there are numerous multiscreen cinemas that show
Hollywood blockbusters - usually with Japanese subtitles - while a decent
number of smaller venues specialize in independent and art-house releases.
Tokyo does a fine line in fun theme parks, too, which are great if you are
travelling with children.
