GREEN PLAZA SHINJUKU CAPSULE HOTEL
Accommodation
The quality and choice of accommodation in Tokyo has improved markedly
in recent years and at all levels, from luxury hotels to budget dorms. Security
and cleanliness are generally top-notch, and except at the bottom end of
the scale, you'll nearly always find someone who speaks at least a smattering
of English. While there are few bargains, if you don't mind pedestrian
decoration and a lack of space there are plenty of affordable places to stay.
A handful of design-conscious hotels aside, you'll often find the best value
- along with plenty of atmosphere - at a traditional ryokan or a family-run
minshuku, the Japanese equivalent of a B&B. The cheapest beds are provided
by privately run hostels, mainly in the city's northern districts. Capsule hotels
are a little more expensive but certainly worth trying once, if only for the
experience, while the city's love hotels are also interesting places to stay.
