( www.assemblyoftext.com ; 560 Johnson St; 11am-6pm Mon-Sat, noon-5pm Sun) Vancouver's
hipster stationery store has finally opened its much-anticipated Victoria branch, socked
into a quirky space that resembles a hotel lobby from 1968. You'll find the same array of
cool greeting cards and cool-ass journals plus the best Victoria postcards you'll ever find
(postage available). Add the button-making table and typewriter stations ($2 for 20
minutes) and you'll be as happy as a shiny new paper clip.

leafy paraphernalia here. Alternatively, sidle up to the tasting bar to quaff some adventur-
ous brews. There's also a small on-site spa where you can indulge in oil treatments and
aromatherapy.
Milkman's Daughter CLOTHING, ARTS & CRAFTS
MAP GOOGLE MAP
( www.smokinglily.com ; 1713 Government St; 11am-6pm Tue-Sat, noon-5pm Sun & Mon) The lar-
ger offshoot of Johnson St's tiny Smoking Lily, this enticing shop carries the full range
of men's and women's togs and mixes in must-have arts and crafts from local and
further-afield artisans (mostly also from the West Coast). It's an eclectic mix, from jew-
elry to pottery and buttons to notebooks, but it's easy to find something to fall in love
with.
Munro's Books BOOKS
MAP GOOGLE MAP
( www.munrobooks.com ; 1108 Government St; 9am-9pm Mon-Sat, 9:30am-6pm Sun) Like a
cathedral to reading, this high-ceilinged local legend lures browsers who just like to hang
out among the shelves. There's a good array of local-interest tomes as well as a fairly ex-
tensive travel section at the back on the left. Check out the piles of bargain books, too -
they're not all copies of How to Eat String from 1972.
