WORTH A TRIP
FUNCTION JUNCTION
Take bus 1 southbound from Whistler village and within 20 minutes you'll be in the
heart of the locals' fave neighborhood. Function Junction started life as a hidden-
among-the-trees area where industrial businesses carried on without affecting the
Christmas card-visuals of the village. But things have changed in recent years and
it now resembles the early days of Vancouver's Granville Island, its industrial units
slowly colonized by galleries and cafes. It's ideal for an afternoon of leisurely
browsing, especially if you plan to dine. There are a couple of streets to explore
here, but the best is Millar Creek Rd .
Start with a late breakfast at Wild Wood Cafe ( www.wildwoodrestaurants.ca ; 1085 Millar
Creek Rd; mains $6-12; 6:30am-2pm Mon-Thu, to 3pm Fri & Sat, 9am-3pm Sun; ) , a folky,
ever-friendly neighborhood haunt where the eggs benny is recommended (it also
serves up great burgers if it's lunchtime), then wander across - noticing the yarn-
bombed trees en route - to White Dog Whistler Studio Gallery
( www.whitedogwhistler.com ; 1074 Millar Creek Rd; 11am-6pm) . Luna (the white dog in ques-
tion) will be waiting to welcome you at the door of this smashing gallery where
artist Penny Eder works. As well as displaying Penny's own work, the snob-free
spot showcases the eclectic creations of dozens of local artists.
Finally, nip across to Whistler Brewing Company ( www.whistlerbeer.com ; 1045 Millar Creek
Rd; tours $13.95;
1pm-8pm Mon-Thu, to 10pm Fri, noon-7pm Sat & Sun) . The area's very own
