Roundhouse Lodge up top. Snowboard fans should also check out the freestyle terrain
parks, mostly located on Blackcomb, including the Snow Cross and the Big Easy Terrain

Lost Lake SKIING, SNOWBOARDING
( www.crosscountryconnection.bc.ca ; day passes adult/child $17/8.50; 8am-9pm) A pleasant
stroll or free shuttle bus away from the village, Lost Lake is the hub for 22km of wooded
cross-country ski trails, suitable for novices and experts alike. Around 4km of the trail is
lit for additional nighttime skiing until 10pm and there's a handy 'warming hut' provid-
ing lessons and equipment rentals. Snowshoers are also well served in this area: you can
stomp off on your own on 10km of trails or rent equipment and guides.
Whistler Mountain Bike Park MOUNTAIN BIKING
( http://bike.whistlerblackcomb.com ; 1-day passes adult/child $53/31; May-Oct) Colonizing
the melted ski slopes in summer and accessed via the lift at the village's south end,
Whistler Mountain Bike Park, at the base of Whistler Mountain, offers barreling down-
hill runs and an orgy of jumps, beams and bridges. You don't have to be a bike courier to
stand the knee-buckling pace: easier routes are also available. But those with calves of
steel should hit the spectacular Top of the World Trail . Outside the park area, winding
trails around the region include the gentle Valley Trail , an easy 14km loop that encircles
the village and its lake, meadow and mountain-chateau surroundings - recommended for
first-timers.
WIRED FOR FUN
Stepping out into thin air 70m above the forest floor might seem like a normal
activity for a cartoon character, but Ziptrek Ecotours ( www.ziptrek.com ; adult/child from
$99/79) zip-lining turns out to be one of the best ways to encounter the Whistler wil-
derness. Attached via a body harness to the cable you're about to slide down, you
soon overcome your fear of flying solo. By the end of your time in the trees, you'll
be turning midair somersaults, whooping like a banshee…and wanting to do it all
again.
Sleeping
Rates peak in winter here, but last-minute deals can still be had if you're planning an im-
promptu overnight from Vancouver - check the website of Tourism Whistler
