couver's best high-concept seafood restaurants and is a highlight of Yaletown fine din-
ing. Music gently percolates through the brick-lined, blue-hued interior, while seafood

the semicircular raw bar and watch the whirling blades prepare delectable sushi and
sashimi.

Revitalizing a former Gastown hotel building, this great-value cafe-bistro is a
perfect fuel-up spot. Drop in for Stumptown coffee or dive into a hearty menu ranging
from hot sandwich specials served with soup or salad to a heaping roast with all the ex-
tras. The sausage and roast potatoes is the winner, though - complete with local-made
bangers.

Arrive early
to avoid the lunchtime queue at Vancouver's favorite gourmet-sandwich shop and you
might even snag one of the four tiny window perches. If not, you can hang with the hip
locals at the chatty long-table, tucking into the daily-changing special, usually featuring
slices of perfectly roasted local lamb, pork or chicken. The grilled-cheese sandwich is
ace, too.
