Twenty miles southeast of Fossil (which is near the Clarno Unit), this fine lodge has six
awesome, comfortable rooms (some share baths) with a common living room. There's
also a restaurant, a small store and rafting services. Reception is at the restaurant.
Fish House Inn INN$

) Five nice rooms (two with shared bath) are available at this inn in Dayville,
less than 10 miles southeast of the Sheep Rock Unit. There's also a pleasant area for tents
and RVs. Three-bedroom house available ($125). Note that no breakfast is served.
Historic Oregon Hotel HOTEL$
( 541-462-3027; 104 E Main St; dm $20, d $45-69; ) This pleasant old-style hotel is in the
little town of Mitchell, about 10 miles southeast of the Painted Hills Unit. Plain homey
rooms are featured, most with shared bath and no TVs. There's one dorm, plus a kit-
chenette room for $89. It's popular with cyclists.
Lands Inn B&B B&B$

Jun-Sep; ) Possibly the world's only B&B with its own airstrip, this mountain
hideaway is 6 miles north of Hwy 26 and 13 miles south of Kimberly (then 5 miles up a
dirt road!). It has several different cabins, most with outside bath, plus campsites. Break-
fast is extra ($12), however, and all electricity is solar (so can be spotty). Reservations
required.
Wilson Ranches Retreat B&B B&B$$$
( 866-763-2227; www.wilsonranchesretreat.com ; 16555 Butte Creek Rd; d $99-139; ) Six
homey and comfortable guest rooms of different sizes (and all sharing baths) are avail-
able at this good B&B, which is also a working ranch. There are pleasant common
spaces, and horseback riding is available. It's 2.5 miles northwest of Fossil. Call ahead.
