Halfway
POP 280
An idyllic little town, Halfway lies on the southern edge of the Wallowa Mountains and
is surrounded by beautiful meadows dotted with old barns and hay fields. It's a friendly
spot with just enough tourist services to make it a decent base to explore the Hells
Canyon Dam area. The Pine Ranger Station ( 541-742-7511; 38470 Pine Town Lane;
7:30-11:45am & 12:30-4:30pm Mon-Fri mid-Apr-mid-Dec) is 1 mile south of Halfway and acts
as the region's tourist information.
The Pine Valley Museum (admission by donation; 10am-4pm Fri, Sat & Sun Memorial
Day-Labor Day) is located right in the middle of town and has a few of the region's old
photos and relics (check out the albino porcupine). If it's closed, ask around town for
someone who might have the key.
Sleeping & Eating
Halfway has just two average dining options - Wild Bill's or Stockman's, both on the
main drag. If you just need the basics, Stockman's has the cheapest rooms in town ($25
to $45; shared baths).
Halfway Motel MOTEL$

Both old and new rooms are available at this reasonable motel. Go for the newer ones on
the 2nd floor (facing the back) to enjoy peaceful meadow views. The themed older
