PENDLETON FOR KIDS
Pendleton has a few fun spots for kids to release their energy. The Children's Mu-
seum of Eastern Oregon ( 541-276-1066; www.cmeo.org ; 400 S Main St; admission $3.50;
10am-5pm Mon-Sat; ) is more like a mini-theme park, with tiny replica market, fire-
house and pizza restaurant. The science, art and 'shadow' offer educational
angles, while the musical instruments and costumes are just plain fun.
If it's a hot day, make a beeline to the Family Aquatic Center ( 541-276-0104; 1901
NW Carden Ave; adult/child 3-17yr $6/4; noon-8pm approximately Memorial Day-Labor Day; ) ,
which features an Olympic-size pool, diving and wading pools, curly water slides,
picnic areas and concession stands. Meanwhile the Pendleton Center for the Arts
( 541-278-9201; www.pendletonarts.org ; 214 North Main; 10am-4pm Tue-Fri, noon-4pm Sat)
offers various art and craft classes, and their teen program includes music,
film-making and costume-design workshops.
Finally, if you need a family-friendly place to eat, take the kids to Prodigal Son
Brewery. There are two children's spaces - including a library and play room - and
while the kids are occupied, mom and dad can have a relaxing and well-deserved
microbrew.
