BALD EAGLE WATCHING
Every November, hundreds of bald eagles travel from Canada and Alaska to winter
in the Klamath Basin, feeding on the area's rich waterfowl populations. December
through February are prime viewing months, when you can spot dozens of these
national symbols along the Lower Klamath Refuge and Tule Lake. To catch them
flying out from their night roosts at first light, head to Bear Valley Refuge, an old-
growth hillside off Hwy 97 (turn west onto the Keno-Worden road just south of
Worden, and after the railroad crossing go left onto a dirt road for half a mile; park
on the shoulder).
In spring and summer you can also watch nesting bald eagles along the west
side of Upper Klamath Lake and at Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. For
